Adam Schiff for Attorney General

With the election of Joe Biden as the next President of the United States, over the next few weeks, Biden and his team will begin to narrow down candidates for his Cabinet.

Biden’s Cabinet is expected to represent the diverse coalition that helped elected, him with a mix of progressives, moderates and even Republicans.

One of the most important and consequential Cabinet positions that any president fills is Attorney General of the United States. This could not be truer for the incoming Biden-Harris Administration.

There seemed to be no limit to the lawlessness of the Trump Administration. During his presidency, Donald Trump's personal attorney, Michael Cohen, was charged and convicted with tax evasion and campaign finance violations. Trump’s first National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn, was charged and convicted with lying to the FBI about conversations with Russia’s Ambassador. Trump’s campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, was charged and convicted of eight counts of bank and tax fraud. Trump’s deputy campaign chairman, Rick Gates, was charged and convicted with conspiracy and lying to FBI. And two of Trump’s former campaign advisers, Roger Stone and George Papadopoulos, were charged and convicted.

Despite the record criminal prosecutions of those in Trump’s inner circle, the president and his family have faced no legal consequences for their actions. It will be of paramount importance that in the Biden-Harris Administration, the Department of Justice is independent and able to enforce the law without fear or favor. While it might not be in the interest of the Biden-Harris Administration to prosecute Donald Trump and his family for their myriad of crimes, it is essential that in a Democracy the rule of law be enforced.

Therefore, Biden must pick a strong and capable Attorney General who knows “where the bodies are buried,” and is not afraid to prosecute those who are charged, to the fullest extent of the law.  The perfect candidate for this enormous responsibility is Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA).

Following Trump’s impeachment in the House, Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) chose Schiff as the lead impeachment manager to oversee the Democrats’ case against President Trump during his Senate trail.

Before becoming a legislator, Schiff served with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles for six years, where he prosecuted the first FBI agent ever to be indicted for espionage. More importantly, Schiff was intimately, involved in the impeachment inquiry of President Trump from the very beginning. As head of the House Intelligence Committee, Schiff oversaw hours of testimony investigating whether Trump intentionally delayed nearly $400 millions of dollars in security aid to Ukraine to force Ukraine to open an investigation into his political rival, Joe Biden.

Despite constant attacks from President Trump, his conservative allies in the House and Fox News, Schiff did not give up or slow down. Schiff never lost his temper through endless anti-Semitic attacks from the president and maintained his sober and steady demeanor. Schiff kept his focus on only two things: The Constitution of the United States and the truth.

In addition to his excellent job uncovering the truth regarding Trump’s actions in Ukraine, Schiff, a lawyer educated at Stanford University and Harvard Law School, has been a leading advocate for equality and human rights at home and abroad. Schiff serves as Vice Chair of the LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus and has advanced legislation to protect the freedom of the press worldwide.

The American people would be so fortunate to have Schiff as their next Attorney General. Schiff has proven to be fair minded and independent. When many Democrats on the far left were demanding that President Trump be impeached, Schiff held back until there was ample evidence to move forward to make a successful case. Schiff’s solemn approach and commitment to fairness and the rule of law is why he should be the next Attorney General of the United States.
